Basil Tufail

remote sensing for vegetation dynamics

About

Basil is an older Eagle from the 3rd Gen, after graduating in 2021 he took off to Bolzano to work at Eurac Research in the Institute for Earth Observation, after 3 years he is now back at the EORC, University of Würzburg to pursue doctoral research. His PhD focuses on alpine vegetation dynamics, their ecological responses to climate change, and the implications for ecosystem management. He specializes in integrating multi-source Earth observation data with time series analysis and machine learning techniques to model vegetation productivity and ecosystem sensitivity. As part of the UAV research team, he also conducts drone-based surveys to generate high-resolution data for vegetation characterization and satellite validation. What motivates him most is the opportunity to bridge field-based and satellite observations to better understand complex alpine ecosystems and support evidence-based conservation and management strategies.
