Marlene and Anna did their internship with Nature Seychelles

In a collaboration that highlights the intersection of technology and ecological preservation, Marlene Bauer and Anna Bischof, EAGLE M.Sc. students in Earth Observation, have engaged in a significant internship with Nature Seychelles. Their tenure on the scenic island of Mahé, spanning November to December 2024, involved a critical contribution to the LEAP Project, where they employed sophisticated Unmanned Aerial Systems to perform essential ecological assessments of important wetland regions. Their research centres on the complex interactions within mangrove and wetland ecosystems, thereby advancing the understanding of their conservation and restoration processes. This initiative forms a component of the transformative EU-funded “Wetlands of Hope” project, which seeks to enhance biodiversity and sustainability in some of the planet’s most crucial habitats. As they explore drone technology for environmental monitoring, Marlene and Anna exemplify the potential of integrating innovative scientific approaches with urgent ecological challenges.
