Once again, our team proudly took part in the International Africa Festival in Würzburg, continuing our active participation within the University of Würzburg’s exhibition—a tradition we’ve upheld for many years.
This year’s event highlighted the ongoing commitment of our research group to Africa-focused environmental studies. Dr. Michael Thiel, who has been involved in Africa research projects for over 15 years—primarily in West Africa, but also in East, South, and increasingly in Central Africa—was invited for a press interview and featured in a local radio broadcast. He shared valuable insights into the role of Earth observation in supporting climate change research, land cover monitoring, and conservation efforts across the continent.
Dr. Thiel was joined by two of our EAGLE M.Sc. students, Mariam from Ghana and Jean from Rwanda, who contributed perspectives from their respective regions. Together, they highlighted the importance of satellite data and remote sensing in addressing ecological challenges and supporting initiatives like those of the Dian Fossey Fund in conservation.
We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with the public, strengthen collaborations, and contribute to a greater understanding of Africa’s dynamic landscapes and environmental needs during these four days of the African Festival in Würzburg.
